Lezzoo Acquires Erbil Delivery In Journey To Become Super App Of Iraq
Erbil Delivery has announced that it has been acquired by Lezzoo for an undisclosed cash and equity deal.
Erbil Delivery is an online grocery shopping app in Erbil which launched in 2018. It was the first to offer on-demand grocery delivery and became a city-favourite. Lezzoo, which recently raised a seven-figure seed round, has also been operating since 2018, offering food and pharmaceutical delivery.
The two companies provide delivery services through mobile applications and vary in services. As Lezzoo expands to become Iraq’s super app, the services they will provide will only continue to grow and already include nursing and cleaning services.
The Erbil Delivery staff will be joining the Lezzoo team and Dana will be leading Lezzoo’s grocery vector. The Erbil Delivery app has already taken the steps to merge with Lezzoo by stopping orders and will soon close down the app.
This acquisition not only shows that Lezzoo is making effective moves into becoming a super app, it also encourages partnerships within the wider Iraqi-Kurdish ecosystem. We hope to see other startups grow, merge, and acquire in order to give hope to budding entrepreneurs and continue the expansion of the tech sector.
Acquisitions give the ability to achieve goals that each company cannot achieve alone, as well as overcoming existing or expected problems in the future. Further acquisitions will encourage Iraqi and Kurdish entrepreneurs to think more about collaboration than competition.
